A Guide to Romania
Bucharest
Romania is situated in the south eastern part of Central Europe and is the largest of the Balkan countries. This is
a country of dramatic mountain ranges, beautiful rolling hills, fertile plains, numerous rivers and lakes and many
historic castles
The legendary Danube River ends its eight-country journey through eight European countries at the Black Sea by
forming one of the biggest and most interesting wetlands in the world, the Danube Delta which is home to hundreds
of different species of fish, birds, and plants. The Carpathian Mountains, or Transylvanian Alps, occupy a third of
Romania and traverse the centre of the country bordered on both sides by foothills and finally the great plains of
the outer rim. Forests cover over one quarter of the country and the fauna is one of the richest in Europe
including bears, deer, lynx, chamois and wolves.
One of Romania's best-kept secrets is the 90 miles of Black Sea coastline. These miles of sandy beaches are
dotted with a string of resorts, each with their own character and the resorts offer a variety of activities such
as water sports, fishing, boating and trekking.
Bucharest, Romania's largest city and capital is situated in the south of this fascinating country. Rich in
culture and history this city has a large number of museums, art galleries, exquisite Orthodox churches and unique
